The American soprano Sydney Mancasola, who joined the ensemble at Oper Frankfurt in 2016/17, can be heard this season as Gilda in Rigoletto – a role with which she recently made her debut at English National Opera in London – 1st Niece in Peter Grimes and an Italian Singer in Capriccio - both new productions. She also sings the role of Violetta in La Traviata for the first time, at the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. Her roles in Frankfurt last season were Fido in Birtten' Paul Bunyan and a soprano in Mozart's Betulia Liberata - both new productions - Onoria in Gluck's Ezio, Pamina in Die Zauberflöte and Musetta in La Bohème. Sydney Mancasola made her triumphant European debut at the Komische Oper Berlin singing the three lead female roles in Offenbach's Les Contes d’Hoffmann, which was followed by Cleopatra in Handel's Giulio Cesare in Egitto, Pamina and Servilia (concert performances of La clemenza di Tito). Other recent engagements have included appearances at the Des Moines Metro Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Fort Worth Opera, the Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Brevard Music Center and Oberlin Opera Theatre and Zdenka (cover) in a production of Strauss' Arabella at Santa Fe Opera. International attention was drawn to her when she won the Grand Final of the Metropolitan Opera's 2013 National Council Auditions.
