The Italian mezzo-soprano Elena Zilio has performed at all leading European opera houses. She recently sang the role of Filipjewna at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, where she returned last season for Madelon in Andrea Chénier, a role she also sang at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, Teatro dell’Opera in Rome and in Bilbao. This season she returns to the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels for Lucia in Cavalleria Rusticana, a role she also sings at Covent Garden in London, where she is a regular guest and where roles have included Zita (Gianni Schicchi), La suora zelatrice (Suor Angelica), Mamma Lucia (Cavalleria rusticana) and Madelon. Other important roles were Hécube (Les Troyens) at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Ericlea (Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria) at Opera Vlaanderen, Mistress Quickly (Falstaff), in cities including Florence, Lyon and Nantes, and Mrs Sedley (Peter Grimes) in Turin. Elena Zilio's discography includes recordings of Pergolesi's Il flaminio (Fonit Cetra) and Puccini's Il trittico (EMI) conducted by Antonio Pappano.
