During the 2017/18 season baritone Björn Bürger adds three new roles to his repertoire: Georg, the lead role in the world premiere of Arnulf Herrmann's Der Mieter/The Tenant, Arioldo in Manfred Trojahn's Enrico and the title role in Britten's Billy Budd and can be heard again as Dandini in La Cenerentola. In recent seasons Björn Bürger, a member of the ensemble since 2013/14, has enjoyed great success as Pelléas (role debut: Pelléas et Mélisande), Plumkett (Flotow's Martha - available soon on CD - OehmsClassics), Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), Schaunard (La Bohème), Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Fritz / Frank (Die tote Stadt/The Dead City), the title role in Owen Wingrave and in recital with Louise Alder. He returned recently to Glyndebourne, for Harlekin in Ariadne auf Naxos, where he made his debut in 2016 singing Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia, a role he will sing at Semperoper in Dresden (house debut) in 2017/18. Other recent engagements have included Dr. Falke (Die Fledermaus) at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Don Giovanni at Oslo Opera and Papageno at the Opéra National in Paris. Björn Bürger won 1st prize at the German National Singing Competition and the Emmerich-Smola and Anneliese-Rothenberger competitions.
