Tanja Ariane Baumgartner, who joined Oper Frankfurt's ensemble in 2009/10, rounded the 2015/16 season in Frankfurt off with the title role in the new production of Carmen and Fricka in Das Rheingold and Die Walküre, a role with which she recently made her debut at the Lyric Opera in Chicago and sings at the 2017 Bayreuth Festival. Other forthcoming engagements include her debut in Santiago de Chile. Her roles for the company earlier that season were Eboli in Don Carlo and Mary in a new production of Der fliegende Holländer/The Flying Dutchman.  In 2016/17 she enjoyed a triumph with Cassandre (role debut) in Les Troyens and Amastre in Xerxes - both new productions - which is followed by Baba the Turk in Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress.  Guest engagements this season include the Mother in Dallapiccola's Il prigioniero/The Prisoner, Judith in Bluebeard's Castle at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse and Clairon in Capriccio at the Theater an der Wien. Other important roles in Frankfurt have included Kirke in the 2014 world premiere of Rolf Riehm's Sirenen, Die Amme (Die Frau ohne Schatten), Lisa (in the first ever performances in Frankfurt of Mieczysław Weinberg's Die Passagierin/The (female) Passenger) - which she sang again when the production went on tour to the 2016 Festwochen in Vienna - and the title role in Othmar Schoeck's Penthesilea. Tanja Ariane Baumgartner recently made her debuts at the Staatsoper in Vienna (as Brangäne in Tristan und Isolde) and Konzerhaus in Vienna, singing Lieder by Beat Furrer. Future plans include Ortrud (Lohengrin) at the Hamburg State Opera, where she took part in the world premiere of Beat Furrer's La bianca notte. This mezzo-soprano, who was nominated as »Singer of the Year« in »Opernwelt« in 2008, 2009 and 2011, is a regular guest at other leading opera companies, including Theater Basel, the Vlaamse Opera Ghent / Antwerp, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and Covent Garden in London. She also sang Judith in Bluebeard's Castle at the 2013 Edinburgh Festival on tour with Oper Frankfurt and performed at the Salzburg Festival. She can be heard on OehmsClassics live recordings at Oper Frankfurt of Wagner's Ring (also available on DVD), Reimann's Medea and Strauss' Die Frau ohne Schatten.
