During the 2017/18 season Katharina Magiera adds three new roles to her repertoire: Lisa in Weinberg's Die Passagierin/The (female) Passenger, Maddalena in Rigoletto and Teresa in La sonnambula and repeats her wonderful portrayal of Wanja in Glinka's Iwan Sussanin and Flosshilde in Das Rheingold (available on CD & DVD - OehmsClassics). This contralto, who studied with Hedwig Fassbender in Frankfurt, has been a member of Oper Frankfurt's ensemble since 2009/10, since which time her roles have included the Narrator / St. Catherine in a double bill of Debussy's La damoiselle élue & Honegger's Jeanne D’Arc au bûcher, Nancy (Flotow's Martha - available soon on CD - OehmsClassics), Margret (Wozzeck) - all new productions last season - Marcellina (Le nozze di Figaro), 3rd Lady (Die Zauberflöte), Annina (Der Rosenkavalier), a role in stage performances of the Messiah, Humperdinck's Hänsel, Filosofia (Cesti's LʼOrontea - available on CD - OehmsClassics), Ježibaba (Rusalka) and roles in three one act operas by Bohuslav Martinů. She also appeared here in recital – a CD of Goethe Lieder is available - OehmsClassics. Guest engagements have included Hänsel at the die Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Schwertleite (Die Walküre) at the Opéra du Rhin in Strassburg and Salzburg Easter Festival, where she has worked with, amongst others, Ádám Fischer and Andrés Orozco-Estrada, and 3rd Lady at the Opéra National in Paris. Future engagements include Schwertleite at the Semperoper in Dresden and 3rd Lady at the Theater an der Wien (house debut).
