Last season Mario Chang enoyed great success with new roles in two new productions: Lenski in Eugene Onegin and the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto, a role you can hear him singing here again during the 2017/18 season, during which this Guatemala born tenor sings the title role in concert performances of Roberto Devereux and the Italian Singer in a new production of Capriccio - both role debuts. He recently sang Ismaele in Nabucco at Los Angeles Opera. His roles in Frankfurt since he joined the ensemble have included Rodolfo (La Bohème), Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Cassio (Otello) and the Italian Singer (Der Rosenkavalier), a role he has sung at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. He has also sung Rodolfo in Los Angeles, Edgardo in Santa Fe and returned to the Met in 2016 to sing Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore. This graduate from the Metropolitan Opera's Lindemann Young Artist Development Program studied at the renowned Juilliard School and has enjoyed great success at many competitions, including the Francisco Viñas Competition at the Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona and two prizes at the Plácido Domingo Operalia Singing Competition.
