Elza van den Heever
The soprano Elza van den Heever, Leonora in this new production of Il Trovatore and a former member of the ensemble at Oper Frankfurt, is one of the leading singers of her generation. She returns to Frankfurt in June 2018 to sing the title role in a new production of Bellini's Norma, a role with which she enjoyed great success in Bordeaux, at the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto and Dallas Opera. Her triumphs during her time in Frankfurt included Elvira (concert performances of Ernani), Suor Angelica / Giorgetta (Il trittico), Desdemona (Otello), Hélène (Les Vêpres siciliennes), Elettra (Idomeneo) and Elisabetta (concert performances of Maria Stuarda), a role with which she then made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York (2012 - available on DVD), where she has also sung Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) and Mozart's Elettra and where she can be heard later this season as Chrysothemis in Elektra. Other forthcoming engagements include Leonore in Fidelio at Zurich Opera. Elza van den Heever's recent engagements have included Handel's Alcina at Santa Fe Opera, Ellen Orford (Peter Grimes) at the Vienna State Opera, Elisabetta (Don Carlos) at the Opéra National du Rhin in Strassburg and Elsa (Lohengrin) under Simone Young at Zurich Opera and at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich.
