Andreas Reinhardt died in 2007. After studying in Dresden and at the Deutsche Academy of Arts in Berlin he was under contract to the Berlin Ensemble from 1965 and the Staatliche Schauspielbühnen (both play houses) in Berlin from 1977. He began working as a freelance set and costume designer in 1978 and was engaged by many of the leading opera companies in Europe, including the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, the Hamburg State Opera, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Vienna State Opera, Nationale Opera Amsterdam, the opera houses in Toulouse and Stockholm and the Bayreuth, Salzburg and Spoleto festivals. Directors with whom he collaborated included Götz Friedrich, Nicolas Joël, Günter Krämer, Stéphane Roche and Kurt Horres. He was made an honorary professor by Dresden's University for the Arts in 1996.
