Yan Tax regularly designs costumes for Harry Kupfer productions, including Glinka's Iwan Sussanin and Berlioz' Fausts Verdammnis/Damnation of Faust at Oper Frankfurt. Their production of Der Rosenkavalier at the 2014 Salzburg Festival was also performed at La Scala Milan. They recently worked on Lady Macbeth von Mtsensk at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Macbeth & Fidelio at the Staatsoper Berlin and Handel's Poro at the Komische Oper Berlin. Future plans include Strauss' Capriccio at Leipzig Opera next season. Opera projects have taken Yan Tax, who is also much sought-after for plays, film and television, to cities including Zürich, Salzburg, Vienna, Berlin, Dresden, Florence, Helsinki, Sydney and San Francisco. In 1991 he was voted »Best Costume Designer« by the Europa Cinema Festival and in 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2004 won prizes for best costumes for the musicals Elisabeth, Mozart!, Titanic and 3 Musketiere in Germany. He received nominations for costumes for the Broadway musical Cyrano (Tony Award 1994) and Paul Verhoeven's film Black Book (2008 German Film Prize). Yan Tax studied fashion design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Breda, the Netherlands.
