Bert Zander worked at Oper Frankfurt for the first time during the 2015/16 season, on Lachenmann's Das Mädchen mit den Schwefelhölzern / The Little Match Girl. He began his theatre career as a lighting, sound and video assistant at various European festivals. After time spent at the University for Film and Television in Munich he went to the Bauhaus University in Weimar, graduating in 2004. He worked as a video assistant for people including Peter Brook, the Akko Theater-Center Israel and Christoph Schlingensief from 1998. He has been freelance since 2000, creating videos for the directors Calixto Bieito, Florian Fiedler, Barbara Frey, Benedikt von Peter, Christiane Pohle, Christopher Rüping, Joachim Schlömer, Nicolas Stemann, Marco Stormann and Lars-Ole Walburg. He was responsible for more than 90 videos for the stage including theatres in Amsterdam, Basel, Bern, Berlin, Bremen, Düsseldorf, Geneva, Frankfurt, Luxemburg, Luzern, Munich, Hamburg, Hannover, Paris, Salzburg, Stuttgart, Vienna and Zürich. This new production of Les Troyens is the first time he has collaborated with Eva-Maria Höckmayr.
