Franc Aleu, who began his career as a photographer, and other artists founded the MAAT group in 1989. He now devotes himself mainly to video and audiovisual arts. He has worked regularly with the La Fura dels Baus for many years, creating videos for productions including Die Zauberflöte at the Ruhrtriennale, Der Ring des Nibelungen in Florence and Valencia, Le Grand Macabre in Brussels, Tristan und Isolde and Alceste in Lyon, Stockhausen's Sonntag at Cologne Opera, Turandot at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Les Troyens in Valencia and at the Mariinski Theatre in St. Petersburg, Tannhäuser and Francesconi's Quartett at La Scala Milan. Franc Aleu directed his first work, Baron Münchhausen, at the Taschenoper in Vienna in 2011. He has also made videos and films for the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, the 2008 Expo in Zaragoza and 2010 Expo in Shanghai.
