General Music Director
During the 2017/18 season General Music Director Sebastian Weigle conducts new productions of Britten's Peter Grimes and Strauss' Capriccio and revivals of Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Eugene Onegin and Das Rheingold. Recent highlights in Frankfurt have included Wozzeck, Flotow's Martha (available soon on CD - Oehms Classics), Glinka's Iwan Sussanin, Der Spieler/The Gambler, Arabella, Der fliegende Holländer, Korngold's Die tote Stadt, and Der Rosenkavalier and the Ring. Sebastian Weigle returned to the Met in New York in 2017 for Fidelio and a triumphant new production of Der Rosenkavalier. Other places where this former Staatskapellmeister at the Staatsoper in Berlin and General Music Director of the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona has recently enjoyed great success have included Zurich Opera, the Hamburg, Dresden Munich and Vienna state operas, the Deutsch Oper Berlin, the Bayreuth Festival and Spring Festival in Tokyo. OehmsClassics live recordings of works conducted by Sebastian Weigle in Frankfurt to date are: Julietta, Wagners Ring, Reimann's Lear, Humperdinck's Die Königskinder, Korngold's Die tote Stadt, La fanciulla del West, Ariadne auf Naxos, three early Wagner operas and a series of symphonic works by Richard Strauss. He was voted »Conductor of the Year« by Opernwelt magazine in 2003 for Die Frau ohne Schatten in Frankfurt (now available on CD – OehmsClassics).
