WALTER RAFFEINER has died
Oper Frankfurt is sad to announce that one of its former colleagues, the tenor Walter Raffeiner, died on December 25th December 2009. Our thoughts are with his wife and family.
He was born on April 8th 1947. During his life he made an extraordinary contribution to music. He began as a baritone, singing Papageno and the title roles in the
Barber of Seville and
Eugene Onegin in Hagen and Darmstadt before changing to the tenor fach and joining Oper Frankfurt (1979-1987) where he triumphed as Parsifal, Siegmund and Florestan in
Fidelio. He appeared at many important opera houses, including Vienna, Amsterdam, Brussels, Munich and Hamburg, was an incredible Brecht interpreter, took part in productions by Christoph Marthaler and gave unforgettable performances in collaboration with the film director Hans-Peter Böffgen.
