Barbara Zechmeister’s repertoire at Oper Frankfurt since she joined the Ensemble in 1996 has ranged from classical to contemporary music. Her roles during the 2011/12 season include Mother Goose in a new production of Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress, Despina in Christof Loy’s award winning production of Così fan tutte and Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus (which was broadcast live on TV last season). Other important roles in Frankfurt have included Coutess Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), First Lady (Die Zauberflöte), Clorinda (Rossini’s La Cenerentola), Musetta / Mimì (La Bohème), Freia (Das Rheingold), Marguerite (Gounod’s Faust), Marie (Die verkaufte Braut/The Bartered Bride), Lady Macduff (Bloch’s Macbeth), Donna Clara (Zemlinsky’s Der Zwerg), Grigori Frid’s Anne Frank, Miss Jessel (Britten’s The Turn of the Screw), Salud (de Falla’s Das kurze Leben/La vida breve), Soprano in Pintscher’s L’espace dernier, the Sister in Sallinen’s Kullervo and Livia in the world premiere of Glanert’s Caligula. Guest engagements have taken Barbara Zechmeister to many renowed opera companies in Germany and abroad, including those in Mannheim, Hannover, Stuttgart, Essen, Rouen. Lisbon and the Wexford Festival.
