In 2012 Barbara Zechmeister was made a Kammersängerin at Oper Frankfurt, where her roles since she joined the ensemble in 1996 have ranged from the classical to contemporary. New roles here during the 2012/13 season are Polina in a new production of Prokofiev’s Der Spieler/The Gambler and a protagonist in performances of Cavalieri’s Das Spiel von Seele und Körper/The Game between Body and Soul. She will also be repeating her wonderful portrayals of Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus and Emma in Chowanschtschina. Other roles in Frankfurt during recent seasons have included Despina in Christof Loy’s award winning production of Così fan tutte, Countess Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), First Lady (Die Zauberflöte), Clorinda (Rossini’s Cenerentola), Musetta / Mimì (La Bohème), Freia (Das Rheingold - available on CD), Marguerite (Gounod’s Faust), Marie (Die verkaufte Braut/The Bartered Bride), Lady Macduff (Bloch’s Macbeth), Donna Clara (Zemlinsky’s Der Zwerg/The Dwarf), Grigori Frid’s Anne Frank, Miss Jessel (Britten’s Turn of the Screw), Salud (de Falla’s Das kurze Leben/La vida breve), the soprano in Pintscher’s L’espace dernier, the Sister in Sallinen’s Kullervo and Livia in the world premiere of Glanert’s Caligula. Guest engagements have taken Barbara Zechmeister to many renowned opera companies at home and abroad including those in Mannheim, Hannover, Stuttgart, Essen, Rouen, Lisbon and the Wexford Festival.
