Concerts for children - Romeo and Juliet

During the 2013/2014 season we continue the Concerts for Children series with musicians from the Museumsorchester of Oper Frankfurt. In December Karsten Januschke, musical assistant at Oper Frankfurt, conducts Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet followed by a concert in July, fifty-fifty, conducted by General Music Director Sebastian Weigle, when half the musicians will be pupils from schools in Frankfurt and the other half members of our orchestra.

The concerts are suitable for children aged 6 and over and last an hour or more without a break.

About the Piece

During season 2008/2009 we want to continue the series Concerts for Children with musicians from the Museumsorchester of Oper Frankfurt. The programme will be introduced by »Labbo«, who you know already, the longest serving piece of cloth at Oper Frankfurt. Sergei Prokofiev's ROMEO AND JULIET

Two quarrelling families, the Montagues and Capulets, live in the Italian town of Verona. Fights have broken out in the streets for generations, with people from both sides getting killed. One evening Romeo and Juliet meet at a party and fall in love. They don’t know what the future holds when they realise that they both come from the warring families.
