Claudia Mahnke, who received wonderful reviews and thrilled audiences in Frankfurt during the 2010/11 season with her portrayals of Judith in a new production of Herzog Blaubarts Burg/Bluebeard’s Castle, Brangäne in Tristan und Isolde and Marguerite in Fausts Verdammnis/The Damnation of Faust, has been a member of the Ensemble since 2006. During Oper Frankfurt’s 2011/12 season she will sing Emilia in Verdi’s Otello and Waltraute/2nd Norn in Götterdämmerung (both new productions) and sing Giulietta again in a revival of Hoffmanns Erzählungen/The Tales of Hoffmann. She will also be singing Das Lied von der Erde with the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo and Adriano (Rienzi) at the Teatro Real de Madrid. In 2013 she will perform Brangäne at the Houston Grand Opera. Other roles in Frankfurt have included Charlotte (Werther), Cherubino, Lucretia, Emilia (Otello, in concert), Concepción (Ravel’s Die spanische Stunde/L’Heure espagnole), the title role in Hartmann’s Simplicius Simplicissimus, Giovanna Seymour (Anna Bolena, in concert), Miranda (Adès’ The Tempest) and Silla (Pfitzner’s Palestrina). Before joining Oper Frankfurt she was a member of the ensemble in Stuttgart, where she received many nominations as »Singer of the Year« in Opernwelt magazine for her portrayal of Simplicius Simplicissimus. She was made one of the Stuttgart State Opera’s Kammersängerin in 2006. Other recent guest engagements have included Brangäne at the 2011 Ruhr Triennale, I Puritani and Palestrina at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Octavian in Essen and Cologne, Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte in Lyon, Dorabella, Cherubino, Zerlina (Don Giovanni) and the Composer (Ariadne auf Naxos) in San Francisco, Cherubino in Seoul and Brangäne in Tokyo, both with Deutschen Oper Berlin.
