new production of FALSTAFF

is back from September 19th

Keith Warner's production of Falstaff opened last February. Now it is back with Jonathan Lemalu, who enjoyed great success here last season in the new production of Rossini's Thieving Magpie in the title role. The rest of the cast is sung by members of our wonderful Ensemble, conducted by Jonathan Darlington.

WORLD PREMIERE OF Reihm's Sirens

next performance September 18th

Sirens – Scenes of Desire and Destruction was commissioned by Oper Frankfurt. The composer Rolf Riehm (*1937) has been fascinated about the myth of the Sirens for many years. Martyn Brabbins conducts, Tobias Heyder directs. A very famous German actor Michael Mendl (Odysseus when old) is taking part. The incredible countertenor Lawrence Zazzo is Odysseus when young and his Kirke (Circe) is our wonderful Tanja Ariane Baumgartner. Further performances: September 18, 21, 26, October 2 & 4, which all begin at 7.30pm

Puccini's La Bohème

next performance September 20th

Alfred Kirchner's popular production of Puccini's La Bohème is back with wonderful new singers in the cast. The show on September 28th, which begins at 3.30pm, is an Opera for Families performance: an adult purchasing a ticket can apply for 3 free tickets for people under the age on 19. There is also FREE CHILD MINDING during the performance.

KWANGCHUL YOUN in recital 8pm September 30th

singing Schubert's Winterreise

This Korean bass gave unforgettable performances of Philipp II when our production of Don Carlos first opened. Under contract to the Staatsoper in Berlin from 1993 - 2004, he is a regular guest at leading opera houses and festivals all over the world, including the Vienna State Opera, Covent Garden in London, the Met in New York and the Salzburg Festival. He sang Herman, Daland and Hunding at this summer's Bayreuth Festival. His accompanist for this recital is Burkhard Kehring.

CHANGE OF DATE: JULIA KLEITER'S RECITAL IS ON OCTOBER 21st 2014

instead of May 19th 2015

Julia Kleiter's Recital on October 21st begins at 8pm. She will perform Lieder by Brahms, Mahler and Schubert, accompanied by the pianist Michael Gees and clarinettist Jens Bischof. This young German soprano's career took off after she sang Pamina (Die Zauberflöte) at the Opéra Bastille, Paris, 2004. She has since appeared at leading opera houses around the world and sang Emma in Schubert's Fierrabras at the 2014 Salzburg Festival.

Otello with ELZA VAN DEN HEEVER

from November 8th

An early tip to be sure to get tickets for Otello, because the cast is so wonderful! Elza van den Heever is back to sing Desdemona again, with Vincent Wolfsteiner (who joins the Ensemble next season) making his house debut with the title role. Cassio is sung by triple Operalia prize winner Mario Chang - currently singing Rodolfo in La Bohème.

MARIO CHANG wins 2014 OPERALIA competition

sings Rodolfo in La Bohème

Mario Chang made his debut at Oper Frankfurt (as a new member of our Ensemble) on September 5th. He has just won 1st Prize, the Zarzuela Prize AND the Audience Prize at Plácido Domingo's Operalia competition, probably the most important competition in the world. So don't miss the chance of hearing him as Rodolfo in our revival of La Bohème (see next News item for more information). Other roles here this season are Cassio (Otello), Edwin (Die Csárdásfürstin) and the Italian Singer (Rosenkavalier).
