During Oper Frankfurt’s 2011/12 season Jenny Carlstedt sings Diana/Destino (role debut) in a new production of Cavalli’s La Calisto. This Finnish/Swedish singer, much admired for her portrayal of Mozart roles, joined the Ensemble at Oper Frankfurt in 2002/03. She has sung Dorabella in Christof Loy’s prize winning production of Così fan tutte (another revival this season), Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), 2nd Lady (Die Zauberflöte), Sesto and Annio (La clemenza di Tito) as well as lesser known roles by the same composer, such as Giacinta (La finta semplice) and Don Ramiro (Die Gärtnerin aus Liebe / La finta giardinera), both new productions. She made her operatic debut at Finnish National Opera in 2001 singing Dorabella, a role she has also sung for Glyndebourne Touring Opera. She has also sung Annio in Oper Frankfurt’s production of La Clemenza di Tito at the Theater an der Wien (Vienna). Other roles whith which she has enjoyed success in Frankfurt have included Angelina (Rossini’s La Cenerentola), Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), Tebaldo (Don Carlo), Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Smeton (Donizetti’s Anna Bolena, in concert), Siebel (Gounod’s Faust), La Muse / Nicklausse (Hoffmanns Erzählungen/The Tales of Hoffmann), Kate in Britten’s Owen Wingrave and Harper Pitt / Ethel Rosenberg in Eötvös’ Angels in America. In 2010/11 she sang the Smith’s Young Wife in a new production of Sallinen’s Kullervo. Guest engagements, in contemporary repertoire, have included the female lead role of Greta, which was written for her, in the world premiere of Laras Karlsson’s opera Rödhamn at Finnish National Opera in 2002. She made her debut at the Royal Opera in Copenhagen in 2009/10 singing Olga in Eugen Onegin, directed by Peter Konwitschny.
