Jenny Carlstedt sings three new roles during Oper Frankfurt’s 2012/13 season: the title role in Handel’s Teseo (Bockenheimer Depot), Erika in Samuel Barber’s Vanessa - both new productions - and Lazuli in L’Étoile. She will also be repeating roles she has already sung in revivals and taking part in many concerts (including the world premiere of a work written for her by Sallinen in Helsinki in 2013, Schumann’s Scenes from Goethe’s Faust in the Alte Oper and the world premiere of Spur der Romantik ). This Finnish/Swedish singer joined the ensemble at Oper Frankfurt in 2002/03 since when, alongside her many Mozart roles (including Dorabella in Christof Loy’s Faust Prize winning production of Così fan tutte, Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro, Sesto and Annio in La clemenza di Tito), she has enjoyed great success with roles including Angelina (Rossini’s La Cenerentola), Diana in Cavalli’s La Calisto, Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), Tebaldo (Don Carlo), Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Smeton (Donizetti’s Anna Bolena, in concert), Siebel (Gounod’s Faust), La Muse / Nicklausse (Hoffmanns Erzählungen/The Tales of Hoffmann), Kate in Britten’s Owen Wingrave, Harper Pitt / Ethel Rosenberg in Eötvös’ Angels in America and The Smith’s Young Wife in Sallinen’s Kullervo. Recent guest engagements have also featured some contemporary music: in 2002 she sang Greta, the female lead role (which was written for her) in the world premiere of Lars Karlsson’s opera Rödhamn at the Finnish National Opera, where she made her debut a year earlier singing Dorabella. Other recent guest engagements have included Olga in Eugen Onegin directed by Peter Konwitschny at the Royal Opera in Copenhagen (house debut, 2009/10), Annio at the Theater an der Wien and Dorabella for Glyndebourne Touring Opera.
