Margit Neubauer
The mezzo-soprano Margit Neubauer joined Oper Frankfurt in 1977 where she sang a richly varied repertoire, including the roles of Sesto (Giulio Cesare), Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), Dalila (Samson et Dalila), Idamante (Idomeneo) and Carmen. She also took part in the world premiere of John Cage’s Europeras 1 & 2. In recent seasons she sang La badessa (Suor Angelica), a role in Puccini’s Il trittico, Háta in Smetana’s Die verkaufte Braut/The Bartered Bride, Marthe in Gounod’s Faust, the Village Judge’s Wife in Janáček’s Jenufa and the Russian Governess in Britten’s Death in Venice. Guest engagements have taken her to Berlin, Hamburg, Zürich, Amsterdam, Jerusalem and Los Angeles, where she sang Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), Brigitta in Korngold’s Die tote Stadt and the title role in Antonio Bibalo’s Fräulein Julie. She has worked with a great many important directors and conductors. In 1993 Margit Neubauer was made a Kammersängerin at Oper Frankfurt.
