Margit Neubauer

Margit Neubauer joined Oper Frankfurt in 1977 and was made a Kammersängerin in 1993. Her many roles for the company have included Sesto (Giulio Cesare), Cherubino (Die Hochzeit des Figaro/Le nozze di Figaro), Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), Dalila (Samson et Dalila), Idamante (Idomeneo) and Carmen. She also took part in the world premiere of John Cage's Europeras 1 & 2. Her most recent roles in new productions have included La badessa in Suor Angelica in Puccini's Il trittico, Háta in Smetana's Die verkaufte Braut/The Bartered Bride, Marthe in Gounod's Faust, the Village Judge's Wife in Janáček's Jenufa and Russian Governess in Britten's Death in Venice. She also took part in an Siegfried Kracauer Soiree – part of the Frankfurt Reads a Book series. Guest engagements have included appearances at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Hamburg Staatsoper, Zurich Opera, in Amsterdam, Jerusalem and Los Angeles, where she sang Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), Brigitta in Korngold's City of the Dead and the title role in Antonio Bibalo's Fräulein Julie, and the Bayreuth and Salzburg festivals with leading conductors and directors. She has also made a name for herself as a concert and oratorio singer.
