Hans-Jürgen Lazar's roles in new productions at Oper Frankfurt during the 2013/14 season are Laios in Enescu's Oedipe, Dr. Cajus in Falstaff and roles in Eotvos' Der goldene Drache/The Golden Dragon, one of Four Kings / Pollux' Nephew in concert performances of Richard Strauss' Die Liebe der Danae/The Love of Danae, Danieli (Die Sizilianische Vesper/The Sicilian Vespers), Heinrich der Schreiber (Tannhäuser) and Harry (La fanciulla del West). This tenor first joined the ensemble at Oper Frankfurt in 1991. He then spent some time under contract to the houses in Hagen and Essen before returning to Frankfurt in 1996. Of the many roles he has sung here since then he made a particularly strong impression with Red Whiskers (Britten's Billy Budd), the Count of Lerma / A Herald (Don Carlo), Theophilus (Palestrina), Tinca (Il tabarro), the Gouverneur (Hartmann's Simplicius Simplicissimus), Bomelius (Die Zarenbraut/The Tsar's Bride), Ägisth (Elektra), Mucius (world premiere of Glanert's Caligula - available on CD OehmsClassics/hr2), Count Albert (Korngold's Die tote Stadt/The City of the Dead available on CD OehmsClassics), Torquemada (Ravel's Die spanische Stunde/L'Heure espagnole) and Mime (Rheingold). His Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte is very popular with our audiences. Guest engagements have taken Hans-Jürgen Lazar to many theatres around the world, including the Hamburg State Oper, the Volksoper in Vienna, the das Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, Teatro Comunale in Bologna, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and the Bayreuth and Salzburg festivals.
