Johannes Martin Kränzle

Johannes Martin Kränzle
Johannes Martin Kränzle was voted „Singer of the Year“ by »Opernwelt« magazine in 2011. His roles in Frankfurt during the 2013/14 season are the Music Teacher in Ariadne auf Naxos, Der schwarze Geier/The Dark Fiddler in Romeo und Julia auf dem Dorfe/A Village Romeo and Julet - both new productions – and Bluebeard in Bartok's Herzog Blaubarts Burg/Bluebeard's Castle. Guest engagements by this internationally sought after baritone during the 2013 Wagner year included Alberich (Der Ring des Nibelungen) at the Berlin Staatsoper and La Scala Milan (he returns to both houses during the 2013/14 season), at the BBC Proms in London, the Lucerne Festival and Klingsor in Parsifal at the Teatro Real in Madrid. He will sing Gunther in Götterdämmerung (a role he sang for the first time at Oper Frankfurt in 2012) at the Grand Théâtre in Geneva in 2013/14. Roles with which he has thrilled audiences here with in recent seasons have included Papageno, Paolo Albiani (Simon Boccanegra), Cim-Fen (Leoni's L’oracolo), the Herald (Lohengrin), Giovanni Morone (Pfitzner's Palestrina), Dandini (La Cenerentola), Jaroslav Prus (Janáček's Die Sache Makropulos/The Makropoulos Case), the Duke of Gloucester (Reimann's Lear, available on CD - OehmsClassics), Don Giovanni and Don Alfonso (in Christof Loy's award winning production of Così fan tutte). His enormous repertoire, more than 100 roles ranging from the lyric, cavalier and, increasingly, character baritone parts, has taken Johannes Martin Kränzle to leading opera houses all over the world and many festivals, including Salzburg and Glyndebourne. He enjoyed great success at international singing competitions earlier in his career, including those in Vercelli, Rio de Janeiro, Perpignan and Paris (Plácido Domingo). His opera Der Wurm/The Worm was very successful at a composition competition in Berlin, where it was performed for the first time. Johannes Martin Kränzle will be a Guest Professor at the Highschool for Music and Dance in Cologne during the 2013/14 winter semester. His latest CD will be issued soon: „Limits of Humanity“ - songs by Franz Schubert and Robert Schumann on Challenge Records International.
