Icelandic bass Magnús Baldvinsson has sung a great many roles during his many years in Frankfurt, and continues to add new roles to his repertoire. During the 2012/13 season he will be taking part in the new production of Humperdinck’s Königskinder, in a revival of Adriana Lecouvreur and repeats his memorable portrayal of Fafner in Rheingold and Siegfried. Verdi roles are central to his repertoire – they have included Zaccaria (Nabucco), Banquo (Macbeth), The Grand Inquisitor (Don Carlo - which he will repeat in the revival this season), Massimiliano/Moser (I Masnadieri 2011) and the Commendatore and Leporello in Don Giovanni. Guest engagements have included the title role in Mendelssohn-Bartholdy’s Paulus with the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra, Tristan und Isolde with the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, performances at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon and Nikolaj Bolkonskj/General Belliard in Prokofiev’s Krieg und Frieden/War and Peace in Cologne.
