The Icelandic bass Magnús Baldvinsson has sung many roles during his years as a member of the ensemble at Oper Frankfurt. During the 2013/14 season he will sing Tiresias in Enescu's Oedipe and Marti in Romeo und Julia auf dem Dorfe/A Village Romeo and Juliet - both new productions – add three new roles to his repertoire: Biterolf (Tannhäuser), Peneios (Daphne) and Ashby (La fanciulla del West), and sing Stefano (The Tempest) and Tomasso (Tiefland). Verdi roles, central to his repertoire, include Zaccaria (Nabucco), Banquo (Macbeth), The Grand Inquisitor (Don Carlo), Massimiliano / Moser (Die Räuber/I masnadieri) and Samuel (Un ballo in maschera/Ein Maskenball). Other roles for the company have included Fafner (Rheingold and Siegfried), the Commendatore and Leporello (Don Giovanni), the Woodcutter (Königskinder) and Prince of Bouillon (Adriana Lecouvreur). Guest engagements have included appearances with the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra (title role in Mendelssohn-Bartholdy's Paulus), the NHK Symphonie Orchestra in Tokyo (Tristan und Isolde), the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg) and the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon (Katja Kabanowa, directed by David Alden). He has also sung Prince Nikolaj Bolkonskj / General Belliard in Prokofiev's War and Peace in Cologne. Magnús Baldvinsson can be heard on live recordings made at Oper Frankfurt (OehmsClassics): Pfitzner's Palestrina, Wagner's Rheingold and Siegfried and Humperdinck's Königskinder, which has just been released.
