Michael McCown joined the Ensemble at Oper Frankfurt in 2001, after appearing here as a guest artist. During the 2010/11 season he took part in many operas, including new productions of Hoffmanns Erzählungen/The Tales of Hoffmann, Tosca and Pizzetti’s Murder in the Cathedral and revivals of Le nozze di Figaro, Tristan und Isolde and Die Räuber/I Masnadieri. During the 2011/12 season he will again be taking part in many works, including roles in new productions of Chabrier’s L’Étoile and Cilea’s Adriana Lecouvreur. One of his most successful and important roles to date was Prior Walter in a new production of Eötvös’ Angels in America in the Bockenheimer Depot in 2008/09. Other roles in recent seasons have included the Duke of Cornwall in Reimann’s Lear (now available on CD - Oehms Classics), which will be revived in 2011/12), Normanno (Lucia di Lammermoor), Don Anchise (Die Gärtnerin aus Liebe / La finta giardiniera) and Antonio in the first performances in Germany of Adès’ The Tempest. He studied in Boston and, whilst still a student, appeared at the Aldeburgh Festival and Utah Opera. Guest engagements during his time in Frankfurt have included performances of Wanda Golonka’s India Song at Schauspiel Frankfurt and Walther von der Vogelweide (Tannhäuser) in Minden and in Hans Neuenfels’ production at the Aalto Theater in Essen.
