Michael McCown
Michael McCown's roles in new productions in Frankfurt during the 2013/14 season are Scaramuccio in Ariadne auf Naxos, a Shepherd in Enescu's Oedipe and Antonio in Die diebische Elster/The Thieving Magpie as well as Mainfroid (Die Sizilianische Vesper/The Sicilian Vespers), Antonio (The Tempest), Trin (La fanciulla del West), A Shepherd (Tristan und Isolde) and a Painter / Dohuslav / Vojta (Die Ausflüge des Herrn Brouček/The Adventures of Mr Brouček). He studied in Boston and appeared at Oper Frankfurt as a guest before joining the ensemble in 2001. One of his most important and successful roles at Oper Frankfurt was Prior Walter in a new production of Eötvös’ Angels in America in 2008/09 in the Bockenheimer Depot. Other roles for the company in recent reasons have included the Duke of Cornwall (Reimann's Lear, available on CD OehmsClassics), Normanno (Lucia di Lammermoor), Don Anchise (Die Gärtnerin aus Liebe/La Finta Giardinera), Kuska (Khovanshchina) and Prince Hérisson de Porc-Epic (L’Étoile). Whilst still a student he appeared at the Aldeburgh Festival and Utah Opera. Guest engagements have included Wanda Golonka's India Song at Schauspiel Frankfurt and Walther von der Vogelweide in Tannhäuser in Minden and in Hans Neuenfels’ production of the same work at the Aalto Theater in Essen.
