Michael McCown
Michael McCown appeared in Frankfurt as a guest before joining the ensemble in 2001. His roles this season were Kuska (Khovanshschina), Prince Hérisson de Porc-Epic (L’Étoile), Don Basilio (Die Hochzeit des Figaro/Le nozze di Figaro), the Judge (Ein Maskenball/Un ballo in maschera) and Trin (La fanciulla del West). During the 2013/14 season his roles for the company include Scaramuccio (Ariadne auf Naxos) and Hirte/Shepherd (Oedipe) - both new productions. One of his most important roles, and greatest successes, to date was Prior Walter in the 2008/09 new production of Eötvös’ Angels in America. Other roles here in recent seasons have included the Duke of Cornwall (Reimann’s Lear, available on CD/Oehms Classics, revival 2011/12), Normanno (Lucia di Lammermoor), Don Anchise (La finta giardiniera) and Antonio in the first performances in Germany of Adès’ The Tempest. He studied in Boston and, whilst still a student, appeared at the Aldeburgh Festival and Utah Opera. Recent guest engagements have included performances of Wanda Golonka’s India Song at Schauspiel Frankfurt and Walther von der Vogelweide (Tannhäuser) in Minden and in Hans Neuenfels’ production at the Aalto Theater in Essen.
