Michael Nagy
Before Michael Nagy embarked on a free-lance career he spent two years as a member of the ensemble at the Komische Operin Berlin and then came to Frankfurt, where he was a member of the ensemble from 2006-2011. This baritone, with Hungarian roots, sang lyric Mozart roles in Frankfurt as well as making several role debuts, including Wolfram in Tannhäuser, Valentin in Faust, Jeletzki in Pique Dame, Marcello in La Bohème, Albert in Werther and the title role in Britten’s Owen Wingrave. Recent engagements have included Wolfram at the Norwegian National Opera in Oslo, Count Luna in Palestrina at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Nardo in La finta giardiniera at the Theater an der Wien and two of Wagner’s early works, Das Liebesverbot/The Ban on Love and Die Feen/The Faries (CD now available in the foyer) in concert in Frankfurt. He made his debut at the 100th Bayreuth Festival last summer, singing Wolfram in a new production of Tannhäuser directed Sebastian Baumgarten and conducted by Thomas Hengelbrock. He is also much sought after for concert work and as a recitalist. In 2013 he sings his first Gunther in a concert performance of the final chapter of the Ring with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jonathan Nott. He will also be appearing as Papageno at the 2013 Baden Baden Pentecost Festival with the Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Sir Simon Rattle.
