Peter Marsh has performed an incredible variety of roles since joining the ensemble at Oper Frankfurt in 1998. After taking part in new productions of Hoffmanns Erzählungen/The Tales of Hoffmann, Dido and Aeneas and Sallinen’s Kullervo last season his roles during 2011/12 include Mime in a new production of Siegfried, Matteo in Arabella and he will be repeating his wonderful portrayal of Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte. He has enjoyed great success here in recent seasons singing the title role in Zemlinsky’s Der Zwerg/The Dwarf, Caliban in the first performances in Germany of Adès’ The Tempest, the Male Chorus in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia, Mozart in Rimski-Korsakov’s Mozart und Salieri and, in the first run and all revivals to date, Pedrillo in Die Entführung aus dem Serail (Christof Loy production, available on DVD). He appears regularly with the company in the Alte Oper in Frankfurt, where he has sung in the first performance in Germany of Pintscher’s L’espace dernier and Rodrigo in Otello, amongst others. Guest engagements have taken him to the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona (Pedrillo in 2009/10), the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, the Semperoper in Dresden, Badische Staatstheater in Karlsruhe, Theater Bremen (as the Dwarf in 2010 and Pinkerton in Madame Butterfly in 2011), the Hamburg State Opera, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Montepulciano, Geneva, Brussels, Tiflis and Tokyo. He will make his debut at the Bregenz Festival in the summer of 2012 - in Andrea Chénier.
