Peter Marsh has performed an incredible variety of roles since joining the ensemble at Oper Frankfurt in 1998. Last season he enjoyed great success with some new roles: Mime in Siegfried (which he repeats this season), Matteo in Arabella and Sellem in The Rake’s Progress. During the 2012/13 season he will add three more roles to his repertoire in new productions of Prokofiev’s Der Spieler/The Gambler, Puccini’s La Fanciulla del West and Verdi’s Die sizilianische Vesper. Other important roles for the company in recent seasons have included the title role in Zemlinsky’s Der Zwerg/The Dwarf, Kimmo in Sallinen’s Kullervo, Caliban in the first performances in Germany of Adès’ The Tempest, the Male Chorus in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia, Mozart in Rimsky Korsakov’s Mozart und Salieri, Pedrillo in Die Entführung aus dem Serail (Christof Loy production, available on DVD) and Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte. Guest engagements have included appearances at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona (Pedrillo in 2009/10), the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, Semperoper in Dresden, the Badische Staatstheater in Karlsruhe, Theater Bremen (2010 as the Zwerg/Dwarf and 2011 as Pinkerton in Madame Butterfly), the Hamburg State Opera, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte di Montepulciano, in Geneva, Brussels, Tiflis and Tokyo. He made his debut at the Bregenz Festival in the summer of 2012 in performances of Andrea Chénier and jumped in as Pinkerton in Darmstadt.
