Simon Bailey enjoyed great success singing Nick Shadow (role debut) in a new production of The Rake’s Progress at Oper Frankfurt in 2012. This baritone, from England, and a member of the ensemble at Oper Frankfurt since 2002, won first prize at the 2004 Musica Sacra competition in Rome. Other important roles in Frankfurt were Méphistophélès (The Damnation of Faust/Fausts Verdammnis), Don Magnifico/Alidoro (La Cenerentola), Dulcamara (L’élisir d’amore), Claudio (Agrippina), Basilio/Bartolo (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Lord Sidney/Don Profondo (Il viaggio a Reims), Don Inigo Gomez (Ravel’s L’Heure espagnole/Die spanische Stunde), Animal Trainer/Athlete (Lulu), Orest (Elektra), Créon in Charpentiers Médée, Mozart’s Figaro, Don Giovanni, Leporello, Papageno and Don Alfonso. Guest engagements have included appearances at La Scala Milan (2009/10, Donizetti’s Le convenienze ed inconvenienze teatrali), the Theater an der Wien (autumn 2010, Ariadne auf Naxos),the Opéra de Lille (early 2011, Michaël Levinas’ La Métamorphose) and the Cantiere Internationale d'Arte in Montepulciano (2011, Rossini’s L'occasione fa il ladro). During the 2012/13 season roles include Berlioz’ Méphistophélès in Antwerp and, at Oper Frankfurt, his first Bluebeard (Bartok’s Bluebeard’s Castle).
