Simon Bailey's roles during the 2013/14 season at Oper Frankfurt, where he has been a member of the ensemble since 2002, are the Heger/Gamekeeper / Jäger/Hunter in Rusalka, Leporello in Don Giovanni (both new productions), Gonzalo in The Tempest, Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte and Sakristán / Lunobor / Domšík in Die Ausflüge des Herrn Brouček/The Adventures of Mr Brouček. Last season he enjoyed enormous success with the title role in Bartok's Bluebeard's Castle (role debut, in Hungarian). Other important roles sung by this British born baritone in Frankfurt have included Nick Shadow (The Rake’s Progress), Don Magnifico / Alidoro (La Cenerentola), Dulcamara (L’elisir d’amore), Claudio (Agrippina), Basilio / Bartolo (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Klingsor (Parsifal), Lord Sidney / Don Profondo (Die Reise nach Reims/Il viaggio a Reims), Don Inigo Gomez (Die spanische Stunde/L'Heure espagnole), Animal Tamer / Athlete (Lulu), Orest (Elektra), Créon in Charpentier's Médée, Mozart's Figaro, Don Giovanni and Papageno and Méphistophélès (Berlioz' The Damnation of Faust/Fausts Verdammnis), a role he sings this season at the Staatstheater in Stuttgart and sang last season at the Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp. Other guest engagements have included performances at La Scala Milan, the Theater an der Wien (Vienna), the Opéra de Lille and „Cantiere Internationale d'Arte“ in Montepulciano. During the 2013 Wagner year he sang Gurnemanz in Parsifal in Wiesbaden and Bad Homburg. He won first prize at the 2004 „Musica Sacra“ competition in Rome.
