LUCY. RUSALKA IS BACK IN JUNE 2013

last performance until next

Dvoƙák's Rusalka and Smetana's Die verkaufte Braut/The Bartered Bride are the most popular Czech operas. Rusalka is a three act fairy-tale based on Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué's Udine, Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid and Gerhart Hauptmann's The Sunken Bell (so bring your handkerchief!).

This new production, conducted by General Music Director Sebastian Weigle, was directed by Jim Lucassen, from Holland. It first opened in Nancy in 2010, went on to Montpellier in 2011 and is now being performed in Frankfurt with a new cast. The title role is sung by American soprano Amanda Majeski, who enjoyed great success here last season with the Goose-girl in the new production of Humperdinck's Königskinder. Her Prince is sung by Hungarian tenor Zoltán Nyári (house debut), who enjoyed great success with the role at the Semperoper in Dresden in 2010/11. Russian bass Mischa Schelomianski (Wassermann/Watersprite) returns to Frankfurt where he has appeared in Rimsky-Korsakov's Zarenbraut/Tsar's Bride and Verdi's Un ballo in maschera/A Masked Ball in the past. All the other roles, led by Tanja Ariane Baumgartner as the foreign Princess and Katharina Magiera as Jezibaba, the witch,  are sung by members of the Ensemble or Opera Studio.

June 26th & 28th 2014, all begin at 7pm
