About the piece

»(...) up until now Apollo always threw down talent for poetry with the right hand and composition with the left, at two different people far away from each other that we still have to wait for a man who can both write and opera and set it to music.« What Jean Paul formulated as an aesthetic desideratum in Wagner’s year of birth – and in Bayreuth! - has grown in the composer from Leipzig’s vision into a synthesis of the arts and finally became a reality at the first Bayreuth Fesitval in 1876. Every generation must approach the Ring des Nibelungen anew and work it out for themselves. Vera Nemirova began her plans to bring Wagner’s seminal work to the stage in Frankfurt with Das Rheingold in May 2010. »Four rings in an integrated whole – static and in motion – stand like a heavenly body in space«: this abstract, spatial constellation is contrapuntal to a very concrete way of how the work is acted out. »If the remaining parts match the quality of this Rhinegold this could turn out to be a very successful Ring.« (»Opernwelt« magazine)
