During the 2011/12 season at Oper Frankfurt Christiane Karg will sing the title role in Cavall’is La Calisto, Kristina in Janáček’s Die Sache Makropulos/The Makropoulos Case (both new productions) and Zdenka in Arabella. This soprano has been a member of the Ensemble at Oper Frankfurt since 2008/09 and in the intervening years has developed into an internationally sought after artist. Her triumphs in Frankfurt have included Mozart’s Pamina, Servilia and Susanna, Musetta (La Bohème), Flora (The Turn of the Screw), Achior (de Almeida’s La Giuditta) and Créuse (Charpentier’s Médée). Guest engagements have included appearances at the Theater an der Wien (Vienna), the Komische Oper in Berlin, Glyndebourne, and the Salzburg Festival, where she sang Zerlina in Claus Guth’s production of Don Giovanni and a performance of Mahler’s 4th Symphony in the summer of 2011. In 2009 she was named »Up and Coming Singer of the Year« by Opernwelt magazine for, amongst others, her interpretation of Ighino in Pfitzner’s Palestrina at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. She is passionate about Lieder singing and places where she has given recitals include the Musikverein in Vienna, the Philharmonie in Essen, the Schwetzingen Festival and the Schubertiade in Schwarzenberg/Hohenems. She was awarded an Echo Klassik prize for her solo CD Verwandlung (Lieder eines Jahres)/Change (Songs of a Year) (2010). Other awards received during her career, which began at the Hamburg State Opera’s international opera studio, include those from the renowned »Neue Stimmen/New Voices« competitioin in Gütersloh and the »Francisco Viñas« in Barcelona (special prize).
