Christiane Karg enjoyed a personal triumph this season at Oper Frankfurt with Mélisande (role debut) in the new production of Pelléas et Mélisande, which she follows up with Adele in the Christof Loy production of Die Fledermaus and a recital. This soprano, a member of the ensemble at Oper Frankfurt since the 2008/09 season, is now one of the most internationally sought after artists of her generation. In 2009 she was voted „Up and Coming Singer of the Year“ by Opernwelt magazine, in part for her interpretation of Ighino in Pfitzner’s Palestrina at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. Her triumphs in Frankfurt have included the title role in Cavalli’s La Calisto, Créuse (Charpentier’s Médée), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Zdenka (Arabella), Susanna (Die Hochzeit des Figaro/Le nozze di Figaro), Servilia (La clemenza di Tito), Flora (The Turn of the Screw), Musetta (La Bohème) and Achior (de Almeida’s La Giuditta). Christiane Karg, who began her career as a member of the Hamburg State Opera’s International Opera Studio, is a regular guest at the Theater an der Wien, Komische Oper Berlin and the Glyndebourne and Salzburg festivals. She is also much sought after for concert work and is a passionate recitalist. Christiane Karg's solo CD Verwandlung (Lieder eines Jahres/A Year in Song) was awarded an "Echo Klassik" prize and her latest release Amoretti, has received wonderful reviews. She has won prizes at important singing competitions, including the "Neue Stimmen/New Voices" competition in Gütersloh and the "Francisco Viñas" competition in Barcelona (special prize).
