The much sought after bass Alfred Reiter has been a member of the ensemble at Oper Frankfurt since 2008/09, since when his roles for the company have included Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte and King Marke in Tristan und Isolde – roles which he sings all over the world (at the opera houses in Berlin, Cologne, Munich, Geneva, Vienna, Salzburg, Paris, London, Cardiff, Los Angeles and Tokyo, amongst others). Whilst in Frankfurt he has now added Papst Pius IV/Cardinal Christoph Madruscht (Palestrina), Peneios in Strauss’ Daphne, Feenkönig/King of the Fairies in Wagner’s Die Feen/The Fairies (in concert) and Kalervo in Sallinen’s Kullervo to his repertoire. He will also be making interesting role debuts here during the 2011/12 season: Trulove in a new production of Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress and Crespel in Hoffmanns Erzählungen/The Tales of Hoffmann. He will also be taking part in revivals, repeating the roles of Sarastro, Fasolt and Count Waldner in Arabella (role debut Frankfurt 2008/09). Recent guest engagements have included Count Waldner in Barcelona, Ochs in Der Rosenkavalier (new production) and Fasolt in Geneva. He was born in Augsburg, studied in Munich and embarked on his career in Wiesbaden and Nürnberg. He was soon being engaged by many renowned opera companies and conductors with whom he has worked include Giuseppe Sinopoli, Sir Simon Rattle, Donald Runnicles, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Philippe Herreweghe, Christoph Eschenbach, Christoph von Dohnányi, Michael Gielen, Ingo Metzmacher and Christan Thielemann. In 2010/11 he took part in the world premiere of Jens Joneleit’s new opera Metanoia in Berlin, conducted by Daniel Barenboim.
