During Oper Frankfurt's 2014/15 season General Music Director Sebastian Weigle conducted highly successful new productions of Hänsel und Gretel,Der Rosenkavalier and Bohuslav Martinů's Julietta, a work which had never been performed in Frankfurt before. During 2015/16 he conducts new productions of Glinka's Iwan Sussanin and Berg's Wozzeck and revivals of Korngold's Die tote Stadt/The Dead City (CD available - OehmsClassics), Der Rosenkavalier and Wagner's Ring (available on CD & DVD – OehmsClassics). He will also lead Strauss' Die Liebe der Danae at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, a work he has conducted in Frankfurt in 2014. This former Staatskapellmeister at the Staatsoper Berlin and General Music Director of the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona has enjoyed great success in recent seasons at other leading opera companies, including Zurich Opera, the Semperoper in Dresden, the Hamburg, Munich and Vienna state operas, the Metropolitan Opera in New York and the Bayreuth and Tokyo Spring festivals. Live recordings of operas conducted by Sebasian Weigle at Oper Frankfurt to date (all OehmsClassics) are: Reimann's Lear, Die Königskinder, La fanciulla del West, Ariadne auf Naxos, Wagner's Ring (also on DVD) and three early Wagner operas; this series continues soon with works by Richard Strauss. In 2003 he was voted »Conductor of the Year« by Opernwelt magazine for his interpretation of Die Frau ohne Schatten in Frankfurt.
