Hartmut Keil, who joined the company in 2002 as a soloists coach, has been a Kapellmeister at Oper Frankfurt since 2008/09 and began running the music department last season. He has condcted the world premiere of Arnulf Herrmann’s Wasser, new productions of Mozart’s La finta giardiniera and Marc Neikrug’s Through Roses and, in 2009/2010, Offene Wunden/Open Wounds (a double bill: Weill / Oehring) with the Ensemble Modern. His broad and varied repertoire also includes Tosca, La Bohème, L’oracolo / Le Villi, Un ballo in maschera, La Traviata, Die verkaufte Braut/The Bartered Bride, Hoffmanns Erzählungen/The Tales of Hoffmann, La Cenerentola, Die Fledermaus and all Mozart’s great operas. During the 2012/13 season he conducts performances of Khovanschina, Lohengrin, L’Étoile, Die Hochzeit des Figaro/The Marriage of Figaro and Die Fledermaus. Hartmut Keil has worked at the Bayreuth Festival since 2003 running the music department and assisting conductors on productions (including Parsifal with Pierre Boulez and Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg with Sebastian Weigle). In recent years in Bayreuth he has also conducted Tannhäuser, Der Ring des Nibelungen and Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (all specially adapted for children – part of the „Wagner for Children“ project). He also works regularly with the Ensemble Modern outside Frankfurt, most recently in Amsterdam in 2011 and at the Munich Biennale in 2012. In late 2012 he worked as Assistant Music Director to Roberto Paternostro on the Ring at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires.
