Hartmut Keil
Hartmut Keil came to Oper Frankfurt in 2002 working first as a coach and then leading the coaching department before becoming one of our Kapellmeisters in 2008. He returned to the Bregenz Festival in 2014 to conduct Die Zauberflöte. During Oper Frankfurt's 2014/15 season he conducts performances of the new production of Hänsel und Gretel, Ariadne auf Naxos and the first ever performances in Frankfurt of three one act operas by Bohuslav Martinů. He enjoyed great success at the end of last season with Eötvös’ latest (commissioned by Oper Frankfurt and the Ensemble Modern) opera Der goldene Drache/The Golden Dragon in the Bockenheimer Depot. Other operas conducted by Hartmut Keil in recent seasons have included Die Zauberflöte, Così fan tutte, the world premiere of Arnulf Herrmann's Wasser and new productions of Mozart's La finta giardiniera and Marc Neikrug's Through Roses, Lohengrin, Khovanshchina, Tosca, La Bohème, Un ballo in maschera, La Traviata, Die verkaufte Braut/The Bartered Bride, Hoffmanns Erzählungen/The Tales of Hoffmann, Die Fledermaus and Chabrier's L’Étoile. He works regularly as an assistant at the Bayreuth Festival, where he has created and conducted versions of Tannhäuser, Der Ring des Nibelungen and Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg - as part of the „Wagner for Children“ project. Regular projects with the Ensemble Modern have included concerts in Amsterdam in 2011 and the 2012 Munich Biennale. In 2012/13 he was Assistant Music Director on the Ring des Nibelungen at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires.
