Opera Studio
Oper Frankfurt’s Opera Studio, which was inaugurated in 2008/09, has already born fruit: in our programme of post-graduate studies young singers are given the chance of making their first performances in a large opera house, helping them to overcome what is often the most difficult step to take when embarking on a career - that first "engagement". Some members of the 2008/2009 Opera Studio are now taking the next step in their careers: we are delighted that Katharina Magiera and Paula Murrihy have joined our Ensemble this season and that Nina Bernsteiner has become a member of the Ensemble in Kassel.
This season we will be introducing you to three new members of the Studio. Apart from learning roles they will receive tuition in acting (and falling!) on stage, language coaching, lessons in phonetics, dialogue, improvisation and the application of make up as well as attending rehearsals taking place in the opera house, which will be followed up by analysis of what they have seen and heard.
They will also take part in regular masterclasses with renowned singers, giving them the chance to enjoy lively dialogue with experienced operatic performers. They will also be given smaller roles to perform in the opera house and might sometimes be seen singing larger roles as second cast. They will come into contact with the daily business of how an opera house functions and will soon become familiar to the opera going public in Frankfurt – it is a well known fact that a great many international careers began in Frankfurt!
This season we welcome EUN-HYE SHIN (soprano, from South Korea), NINA TARANDEK (mezzo soprano, from Croatia) and WENWEI ZHANG (bass, from China). They join SOPHIE ANGEBAULT (soprano, from France), YURIY TSIPLE (baritone, from the Ukraine) and DONG-JUN WANG (baritone, from China) in their second year at the Studio.

We invite you to follow these young artists as they progress.
