Katharina Magiera will take over the role of Cornelia in the new production of Handel’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto from Tanja Ariane Baumgartner in January 2013. Her other roles this season were Flosshilde and Schwertleite in the next cycles of the new Frankfurter Ring and Marzelline in Die Hochzeit des Figaro/Le nozze di Figaro. This alto joined the ensemble at Oper Frankfurt after appearing here regularly as a guest and a year in the Opera Studio. Roles here in recent seasons have included Alisa in Lucia di Lammermoor, Tisbe in La Cenerentola, 3rd Lady in Die Zauberflöte, Hua-Quî in Leoni’s L’oracolo, Bradamante in Orlando furioso, the 2nd Koryphäe in Pizzetti’s Murder in the Cathedral, Unto’s Wife in Sallinen’s Kullervo and the High Priestess in Hans Neuenfels’ production of Schoeck’s Penthesilea. She studied with Hedwig Fassbender in Frankfurt and has participated in masterclasses held by Christoph Prégardien, Ingeborg Danz and Prof. Rudolf Piernay. She was awarded scholarships by Rheinland-Pfalz’s „Villa Musica“, the German People’s Studies Foundation and the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation „Live music now“ and won the 2009 Mendelssohn Competition. Recent guest engagements have included Schwertleite in David McVicar’s production of Walküre in Strassbourg. She is also much in demand for concert work and gives regular recitals
