Paula Murrihy joined the ensemble at Oper Frankfurt in 2009. Her roles during our 2014/15 season are Emilia in Otello, the title role in Antonio Cesti's LʼOrontea and Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier - both new productions. Before returning to Frankfurt she will have sung Dido in our production of Dido and Aeneas at Los Angeles Opera, which Oper Frankfurt performed at the 2013 Edinburgh International Festival. Roles sung by this Irish mezzo-soprano in Frankfurt during recent seasons have included Fulvia (new production of Gluck's Ezio last season), Medoro (Orlando furioso), Dorabella (Così fan tutte), Sesto (Giulio Cesare in Egitto), Emilia (Otello), Lazuli (Chabrier's L’Étoile), Kreusa (first performances in Germany of Reimann's Medea), La Muse / Nicklausse (Hoffmanns Erzählungen/The Tales of Hoffmann), Scipio (Glanert's Caligula) and Annio (La clemenza di Tito). Guest engagements have included appearances in Utrecht (title role in Honegger's Judith 2013), The Royal Opera House in London, Santa Fe Opera, the Boston Lyric Opera, the Théâtre du Capitole Toulouse and Dido at the Lugo Opera Festival and in Bologna. Paula Murrihy has also appeared in recital at the Aldeburgh and Wexford festivals, in Carnegie Hall in New York, as part of the »Marilyn Horne Foundation Masterclass Series« and, in 2013, at Oper Frankfurt, alongside fellow ensemble member Simon Bode. A former member of San Francisco Opera's Merola Program, she was awarded the first ever Anny Schlemm Prize in 2010.
