Thorsten Grümbel was a member of the ensemble in Frankfurt from 2009/10- 2011/12 and has sung Frank in this production of Die Fledermaus since it first opened. Other roles during his time here included Zaccaria (Nabucco), Colline (La Bohème), Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte), Philipp II. (Don Carlo), Jacopo Fiesco (Simon Boccanegra), Osmin (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Gernot (Die Feen/The Fairies - CD on sale in the foyer), Ludovico (Otello), the King of France (Lear) and Brighella (Das Liebesverbot/The Ban on Love). He has now rejoined the ensemble at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, where he was a member for ten years from 1999. New roles there in the 2012/13 season are Daland in Der fliegende Holländer/The Flying Dutchman, Count Walter in Luisa Miller and Hunding in Die Walküre. Recent guest engagements have included Fasolt at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Osmin at Zurich Opera and Sparafucile (role debut) in Rigoletto at the Semperoper in Dresden, where he has taken part in several performances of Die Zauberflöte. He will be returning to Frankfurt as a guest artist in future seasons.
