Alfred Kim studied in Seoul, Frankfurt and Karlsruhe. Earlier in his career this internationally sought after tenor won the 1997 International Belvedere Singing Competition in Vienna and the 1998 ARD Music Competition in Munich. He was also awarded a special prize at the 2002 Operalia singing competition in Paris, which was founded by Plácido Domingo. He was a member of the Staatstheaters in Kassel and Wiesbaden before, in 2009/10, joining the ensemble at Oper Frankfurt, where he made his house debut as Carlo in a new production of I Masnadieri in 2008/09. His roles here since then have been Ismaele (Nabucco), Rodolfo (La Bohème), Gabriele Adorno (Simon Boccanegra), Hoffmann (Hoffmanns Erzählungen/The Tales of Hoffmann), Cavaradossi (Tosca) and Alfredo Germont (La Traviata). During the 2012/13 he will sing Henri in the new production of Die sizilianische Vesper and repeat his stunning portrayal of the title role in Don Carlo.
