Alfred Kim studied in Seoul, Frankfurt and Karlsruhe. Earlier in his career this internationally sought after tenor won the 1997 International Belvedere Singing Competition in Vienna and the 1998 ARD Music Competition in Munich. He was also awarded a special prize at the 2002 Operalia singing competition in Paris, which was founded by Plácido Domingo. He was a member of the Staatstheaters in Kassel and Wiesbaden before joining the ensemble at Oper Frankfurt in 2009/10 after making his house debut as Carlo in a new production of I Masnadieri in 2008/09. His roles here since then have been Ismaele (Nabucco), Rodolfo (La Bohème), Gabriele Adorno (Simon Boccanegra), Hoffmann (Hoffmanns Erzählungen/The Tales of Hoffmann), Cavaradossi (Tosca) and Alfredo Germont (La Traviata). During the 2012/13 season he sings Henri in the new production of Die sizilianische Vesper and repeated his stunning portrayal of the title role in Don Carlo. He will also be going to Barcelona for La forza del destino and to the Deutsche Oper in Berlin for Turandot. Other future engagements include Calaf at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Manrico (Il trovatore) at the Teatro Municipal in Santiago de Chile, Apollo (Daphne) at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse, Radamès (Aida) at the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville and Mario Cavaradossi at the Teatre del Liceu Barcelona and, in 2013/14, Oper Frankfurt. Alfred Kim became a Professor at the Kyung Hee University in Seoul in 2013.
