Vuyani Mlinde was a member of the opera studios at Opera Queensland and the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, where roles included Leporello and where he worked with many renowned conductors including Antonio Pappano, Daniel Oren and Semyon Bychkov. This South African singer joined the Ensemble at Oper Frankfurt at the beginning of last season, during which he sang A Monk in Don Carlo, The Speaker in Die Zauberflöte, Bartolo in Le nozze di Figaro, Cesare Angelotti in Tosca and La Vengeance in Charpentier’s Médée (Bockenheimer Depot) – both new productions. During the 2011/12 season he will sing Angelotti again in Tosca, Masetto in Don Giovanni Doktor Grenvil in La Traviata and Hanezò Mascagni’s L’amico Fritz (role debut, in concert, at the Alte Oper). He is much in demand for concert work. Recent engagements have included Haydn’s Die Schöpfung/The Creation under John Eliot Gardiner in the Carnegie Hall in New York, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and at the Pisa Festival, and Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the London Symphony Orchestra in Paris, Madrid and London. He gathered his first experiences on stage at the Edinburgh International Festival (Verdi’s Macbeth) and Grange Park Opera (Prokofiev’s The Love for Three Oranges), amongst others. He has won many awards and has also regularly been engaged by the Oviedo Opera, Cincinnnati Opera and Houston Grand Opera
