Vuyani Mlinde has been a member of the ensemble at Oper Frankfurt since 2010/11. His roles here during the 2013/14 season are a wig-maker in Ariadne auf Naxos, a High Priest in Enescu's Oedipe and Pluto in Telemann's Orpheus - all new productions - and Angelotti in a revival of Tosca. This South African bass' roles in Frankfurt have included the Speaker (Die Zauberflöte), Cesare Angelotti (new production of Tosca), La Vengeance (new production of Charpentier's Médée), Casino Director (new production of Der Spieler/The Gambler), Bartolo (Die Hochzeit des Figaro/Le nozze di Figaro), A Monk (Don Carlo) and Colline (La Bohème). Before he came to Frankfurt he was a member of Queensland's Opera Studio and the Young Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London. He has worked with many leading conductors, including Antonio Pappano, Daniel Oren and Semyon Bychkov in some of the world's finest venues. Recent concerts have included Haydn's Die Schöpfung/The Creation under John Eliot Gardiner in Carnegie Hall New York, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and the Pisa Festival and Beethoven 9 with the London Symphony Orchestra in Paris, Madrid and London. He gathered early operatic experience in places including the Edinburgh Festival (Verdi's Macbeth) and Grange Park Opera (Prokofiev's Die Liebe zu den drei Orangen/The Love for Three Oranges). He sang Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte at Oviedo Opera in 2011/12 and Ferrando in Il trovatore at Cincinnati Opera and the Houston Grand Opera in 2012/13.
